JULY 2010 NEWS LETTER
Corvette Adventures
June Cruizin Month started off with our third year of Corvette Adventures in the Wisconsin Dells, WI. It was great fun seeing old friends and meeting new ones while admiring all the Corvettes that attend the event as well as beautiful new ones provided by Ballweg Chevrolet of Middleton, WI for the drivers of the road tours. What a lucky bunch of drivers!! Cruz Master put together great back road routes featuring some of Wisconsin finest rural America stops along the way. From a cheese and winery tour, a ride to the Mississippi River for lunch to a stop at the Baraboo Circus World Museum showcasing what CruizinUSA is all about, sharing our routes and the stops along the way.
Bloomington Gold
St Charles, IL was fun as that town hosted the annual Bloomington Gold Corvette Show showcasing some of the most beautiful Corvettes out there. From old to new, they were all there along with the Mecum Auto Auction making this event one of the largest Corvettes Shows going. The most moving car displayed was the one dedicated to the fight of cancer by two gentlemen who had lost their wives to the deadly disease. Show your support and visit their booth at other Corvette Events. The survivor car show was well worth the stay on Sunday. What a collection of cars with all brands from all years. Check out our pictures on our Cruizin Face Book Fan page.
Wing-Ding
Cruizin Susan finished off the month at the annual Wing-Ding 32 held in Des Moines, Iowa. Participating with ScarecrowArt.com vendor booth we got to see a true bike artist at work. With license plates that read “Her Wing” we watched as Scarecrow performed his magic on a Gold Wing and gave that lady rider the look of her dreams on her bike. She proudly returned with her new Ostrich seat from another vendor and was ready to join the others. We saw some of the most beautiful Gold Wings and the different variety of trikes and you should see what’s out there!! The new styles are right out of the 21st Century and were fun to see first hand. The annual Wing-Ding parade was a site to behold as well. We got to video the parade and heard that the count was 600 plus bikes from the official Wing-Ding counters.
The artwork that is on some of these bikes is as unique as their owners. Passionate about their bikes and what they express gave way to many a heartwarming story. From new tires to new seats, hand grips or pipes, trailers to campers or the flags that are flown proudly on the bikes, the vendors work around the clock full filling as many needs and desires as they can and when that 1:30 announcement comes on that final day they knew that they have made a lot of people happy. Kudos to the organizational group of the GWRRA 2010 for a well run show. See you in Knoxville, Tennessee for Wing-Ding 33, 2011!
After the show ended we road Black Beauty a beautiful black 2010 Honda Gold Wing provided by Vetsnick Power Sports in Richland Center, WI. From beautiful downtown Des Moines, IA to the back roads of Iowa, we took a fun back road route riding this fine, smooth machine to see the birth place of John Wayne. What a way to spend a Saturday out of town. We were helped in our journey in a town called St. Mary’s at the Northside Tavern where we stopped for directions. We met the new owner Patrick, who had moved from Florida with his wife and bought the bar that had been in her family for years. Along with his customers we enjoyed our visit and the history lesson, then with the help of their directions found our way to the birth place of John Wayne in a town called Winterset. In Winterset we stopped at the Pheasant Run but known to many as the Blue Note - the bar in the movie Bridges over Madison County. They made sure we did not miss the newly erected bronzed John Wayne statue in the middle of town just down the block. Be sure you visit our new friend’s establishments on your way to see a little history. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon as these are the types of journeys that have been the inspiration for CruizinUSA.
Des Monies Iowa showed off big town support not only for the Wing-Ding 32 but their annual Good Guys Custom Car & Truck Show. Over 3,500 of every type of custom car and trucks plus many older stock models were on display for the 4th of July weekend. People lined the streets of the Iowa State Fair grounds with their chairs to see these cars come in and out throughout the weekend. I couldn’t stop taking pictures as each one was so cool! We ran into some friends from our Corvette Adventures Event at the custom car and truck show who gave us a tip to check out the “Field of Dreams” farm and ballpark that is located in Dyersville, Iowa somewhat on our way home. We finished the night off watching the fireworks from the grandstand. Check out our pictures on our Cruizin Face Book Fan page. What a great way to start off the month of July. When we go live we will have more pictures and video along with the routes and all the POI’s attached to our routes so fellow Cruisers may Enjoy the Journey as Well!

CRUIZIN WITH SUSAN
May was an amazing month for spring weather and cruising. We have had fun meeting up with people on the road, and one ride we will never forget and feel much honored to be part of the LZ Lambeau Ride in Green Bay, WI honoring our Vietnam Veterans. We started with approximately 800 bikes in LaCrosse, WI and that grew to 1,200 bikes when we reached Green Bay.
I was asked why I cared, why am I going on this ride, why do I want to get the word out about this event and what does it all stand for and who cares after 40 years? “A little too late” is what we heard more often than not.
It is never too late to thank a veteran regardless of the timing. We should be thanking them every day for what they sacrificed for our FREEDOM, which translates into the American way of life! But for this particular period the Vietnam War has been swept under the carpet that today’s kids or the kids of the Vietnam Veterans have never studied or had the chance to talk with a parent or any adult about this period in our country. Even worse our Vietnam Veterans have lived for years of being forced to keep it all bottled up inside and any veteran knows that this is not healthy for either the veteran or the country.
So, why now? Events like the LZ Lambeau and the chance to experience the “Moving Wall “ has opened up the discussion and given our Vietnam Veterans the OK to talk about it, so we don’t forget not only their service but not to let the anti Vietnam Veteran attitude ever be accepted in this country again. No matter your political beliefs, we can never treat our veterans like our Vietnam Veterans were treated. To quote a Vietnam Veteran, my brother, “I am happy and grateful that what happened to us will not happen to future veterans”. Our Vietnam Veterans have fought an at home battle for 40 years and they are finally winning the respect they have deserved from day one.
To be on the LZ Lambeau Honor ride was the biggest honor I have ever had. To ride with these Vietnam Veterans and feel the love amongst them and to see people lining the streets at 6:30 am on a very rainy morning was an experience we will never forget. People saluting, waving, holding up welcome home signs, cheering and honking horns was a thrill. It one particular town It started with the grade school, and high school bands and then the whole town had turned out to welcome home our Vietnam Veterans as we rode under the American flag hosted by two ladder trucks going through downtown of this amazing town in northeast WI, and can you believe it was called FREEDOM?
Lambeau, a legend in itself and always brings a tear to the eye brought more tears as we were once again met with hundreds of people holding welcome home signs saluting and cheering as we entered LZ Lambeau. A safe Landing Zone at last! LZ LAMBEAU!!
Wisconsin Public Television and Rolling Thunder have continual discussions, blogs on their web sits to help facilitate the discussion about the Vietnam Veteran experiences and keep it alive. CruizinUSA Face book Fan page is also trying to help keep the talk alive. Please visit share your experience and pictures. We will show all our Veterans that we will never forget.
We followed that ride with a Memorial Weekend ride called the Lake Michigan Loop Route and we rode with the Madison and Milwaukee (WI) Star Chapters. Lake Express ferry from Milwaukee to Michigan was a smooth sail across the Lake Michigan and we were greeted with awesome weather just like what we left in Wisconsin. We were greeted by the Michigan Star Chapter and rode up the coast, did Sleeping Bear Dunes; check out our pictures taken with a video camera that was mounted on our bike (on our Facebook Fan Page). The pictures of the dunes at the highest dune in the world from the camera advantage truly looks like you are at the end of the Earth. We then did a 9 mile stretch on Hwy. M-119 called the” Tunnel of Trees” and at the very end of it was a restaurant called Legs Inn www.legsinn.com. A definite do not miss!!
Our timing was perfect for a magnificent sunset on Lake Michigan and a great meal. We could have hung out there for a very long time. Talk about history!! A short ride to the Mackinac Bridge for a night crossing with the Mackinac Bridge all lit up. Awesome!! We did it two more times the next day, again getting some great pictures and video. Rode Hwy 2 across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, then back down through WI where we once again found a small town hotel in Shawano, WI called, Settle Inn & Suites with great people. Our last evening was spent enjoying road stories with other fellow travelers we met around the pool, who were staying at the same hotel we had all found on our journey. One group was road Cruizin with 6 people in a King Cab truck, proving that you don’t need a fancy sports car or a motorcycle to enjoy the great back roads of America. This is what CruizinUSA is all about - sharing our adventures and finds. Connecting Main Street America One Route at a Time!!
Check out our Cruizin Facebook Fan page for the pictures and when we go live with our new site, we will have more pictures and video along with the routes and all the points of interest included on our routes, so fellow Cruizors may Enjoy the Journey as well!
We would love for you to share your pictures and stories on our Face book Fan page from any of your road trips.

SPRING AT LAST - rains have cleaned the roads, flowers are budding and the days are longer. Perfect for some Spring Cruizin to enjoy the landscape changing before our very eyes. It is that time of year when winter is letting go and spring is trying to break through.
March was a good month for a trip to the Harley Museum in Milwaukee with our Star Chapter friends where we learned some great history not about the Harley Motorcycle, but also about the people who helped build the history. Our history lesson included the design, the fun and competition and service time, not only with small business but military service as well. You could spend hours appreciating all that is there. It really is a great American story much like visiting the Ford Museum in the car world. It was fun to see both men and women sharing in this history from the beginning. Brings back the phrase that I grew up with - No matter what you ride, it just matters that you RIDE! This fits for car, truck, anything with wheels. It is the love of the journey and our wheels that brings us together on our great back roads.
We will be back in Milwaukee with our Star Chapter at the Americans Feeding Americans Tour assisting with their Feed the Children Program: www.americansfeedingamericans.com . Like us they have a mission and have been meeting it for years, not only in the U.S., but in several other countries as well. They are stopping in big cities where chapter members distribute food and other supplies to surrounding towns food banks, churches and similar organizations. Like many clubs and chapters, the Star Touring Association is a big supporter of Feed the Children and it is a very humbling experience to be part of the distribution process. One of our Cruizin Founders went with his church group to help rehab homes in New Orleans and Mississippi and even though Hurricane Katrina is no longer in the news the help is still very much needed. Through many grass-roots movements we can truly help all of our neighbors on this great earth of ours and our web developer and friends at Earth IT are going to help us do that. Be sure to check out our events page to find out about event s coming up, or to list your events for not only the fun, but any charitable organization that is associated with that event and or group.

Tune your engines! Check your tires! The Cruizin season is about to begin for all of us! As the snow starts to melt and with the sighting of early robins, the northern half of the country is thinking of putting away the snow tires and either jumping on a motorcycle or putting the top down.
We were at the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in Chicago, IL in February and what a site. With just about every motorcycle brand represented and all the cool stuff that goes with it was one awesome dream show. Great bargains and helpful people & vendors all geared to assure a safe and fun riding season. The coolest part was running into our Star Touring friends at the Yamaha booth. Our son who is a Harley mechanic joined us and he was having his own personal tour guide on the ins and outs of all the bikes. You learn a lot from a mechanic and an honest good car or motorcycle mechanic is a great relationship to have.
Site Upgrades Coming in Spring
Our web site is going through a spring mechanical upgrade to assure our current and future members a more pleasant journey when using our site. We would like to ask for your patience as not all the functions on our site are performing at maximum optimization. What seemed like a simple idea has been anything but. It has become much like restoring a vintage vehicle and not being able to find the parts you need in time for the big show. Our journey has brought us to many a bend in the road, but we have learned much at each one and would not have wanted to miss a one. Please continue to sign up and visit the site so we can keep you informed with our progress and you will be the first to know when the new version will be unveiled this spring. Lots of exciting changes, more user friendly functions and more!

Good Life Handbook
Thought we’d do something different in this newsletter since the start of a new year represents hope, change and renewal. So here is an excerpt from the Good Life Handbook that may help you achieve those.
-Good Life Handbook
The first step in the acquisition of wisdom is silence, the second listening, the third memory, the fourth practice, the fifth teaching others!
By associating with wise people you will become wise yourself!
Health :
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a beggar.
3. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants..
4. Live with the 3 E’s — Energy, Enthusiasm and Empathy
5. Make time to pray.
6. Play more games
7. Read more books than you did in 2009 .
8. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day
9. Sleep for 7 hours.
10. Take a 10-30 minutes’ walk daily. And while you walk, smile.
Personality :
11. Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
12. Don’t have negative thoughts on things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
13. Don’t overdo. Keep your limits.
14. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
15. Don’t waste your precious energy on gossip.
16. Dream more while you are awake
17. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need..
18. Forget issues of the past. Don’t remind your partner with his/her mistakes of the past. That will ruin your present happiness.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don’t hate others.
20. Make peace with your past so it won’t spoil the present.
21. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
22. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas from the Folks at CruizinUSA
The snow has finally fallen in a considerable amount and some of us may now perceive that the riding season is over. Not so! One of our favorite things to do in winter is to take the back roads from our home to one of our favorite Northern Wisconsin areas that gives us some of the most fun and beautiful country side routes ever. Even if they are snow covered, just slow down and Enjoy the Journey!
We go through several friendly small towns all the way to one of our favorite small town winter destination, Claim Lake, Wisconsin. We have our must stops, but we are always discovering many new ones when we just alter our route for “that road looks cool, we need to check it out!”
CruizinUSA was created to share routes that are not just seasonal but all year round. Small businesses need your patronage during these tough economic times. This time of year you can create some of the best holiday memories ever, just by taking a road trip. For us, a trip up north, to Clam Lake, WI even in the winter is one of the areas that we want to tell people about because the area is just not for hunting or snowmobiling. The restaurants and taverns offer some of the best food and holiday atmosphere you will ever find and in terms of shopping, there are unique one of-a-kind shops that you won’t find in any mall. The sighting of an Elk is one you won’t forget if you are lucky enough to see one. This is just one of the many small town examples our members can share not only from Wisconsin but in all our states. Small towns have a way of making you feel as if you were home for the holidays while enjoying all they have to offer.
Consider taking a day or weekend road trip and check out some small towns in your area. Great way to help spread the wealth. If you see the Salivation Army Bell Ringers give what you can, you will be helping someone in that area who really needs our help. It doesn’t take much to look around and see others who may be having a rougher time.
Every road cruiser in every state can share a similar route and town with its mix of people this holiday season and we invite you to share your favorite Christmas Road trips and your stops along the way using our Mapmaker. Put your pictures on the Media page and share the stories all which can be attached to the route you created. Tell us about your stops so others can enjoy them as well. The more we can get this information out there the more we can help save small town America and not let their business go under.
A very special Thank You to our Military men and women serving our country. We wish you a safe and speedy return home. You are special people along with those who served before you. You all deserve much more than you receive for your commitment to keeping us free and safe. It’s hard to believe that for the northern part of the country that we are at the end of the summer riding season and now entering the fall cruizin season. And while in some ways the end of the summer for those of us in the north can be depressing, the prospect of fall rides with its brilliant colors and cooler days are the opposite. When riding and you come across these brilliant colors as well as other spectacular scenery be sure to photograph it and upload on the site for all to enjoy. Be safe and ‘enjoy the journey’.
Midwest Star BBQ
Doug and Sue were at the Midwest Star BBQ hosted by the Indianapolis Star Chapter. What an Event! As always with Star people it is the people who make it fun. Thank you so much to the Madison Star Chapter for including us. You guys are an awesome group. We really had fun riding with you and the Milwaukee and Woodstock Chapters all making our trip very memorable… How cool is it that the Milwaukee Chapter will host the Midwest Star-BBQ for 2010. Great group of people all very dedicated to making their event a great one!
Michigan Ferry Ride
Summer may be winding down but Cruzin is not. With the hint of fall in the air and the colors just starting to change this is a great time of year to keep on Cruizin. Sept. brings a ride with friends who took the Lake Michigan Car Ferry over from Michigan to Manitowoc, WI. Eleven bikes then rode to Marshfield, onto Prescott, WI with a fun stop for Mississippi River viewing. It was then onto LaCrosse, WI with a stop at Lady Dawns in Blanchardville, WI, the last stop of a three day ride ending at Blue Mounds, WI with the Michigan group riding back on Sunday. Now that is some serious riding.
Corvette Fun Fest, Effingham, IL
September will also bring a trip to Effingham, IL for the Corvette Fun Fest. CruizinUSA will hook up once again with Chula Vista Resort to promote the clubs 2010 Corvette Adventures www.corvetteadventures.com in the Wisconsin Dells, WI. The Dells Corvette club will host a hospitality tent featuring Wisconsin cheese, wine, & beer from the local business featured on the Wisconsin routes provide by Cruizinusa.com. Some of our favorite POIs (Points of interest on the MapMaker)

Welcome to the “Dog Days of summer”. I’m not sure where that saying originated, but the creator of the saying must not have been a back roads traveler. With summer weather in full force that means great traveling weather and exploring the back roads and towns. So “enjoy the August journeys”.

Cruizin with Susan
Cruizin with Susan attended Star Days 2009 in Billings, MT the week of July 20th. Sue & Doug were at the event promoting Cruizin Bike Fest 2010 at Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells, WI. Star Days is put on by the Star Touring Association located in Tucson Arizona. Although Doug & Sue were working the booth for the Cruizin Bike Fest 2010, we did manage to get in a little riding. We met some really great people from all over the United States and other countries as well. People were so friendly and made you feel like you have been friends forever. Thank you to the Kansas and Missouri Chapters for letting us join you on the Swamp-Azz ride through the Bear Tooth Pass. What a spectacular ride with some of the most beautiful scenery imaginable. Didn’t get to see any Grizzly’s but there was still snow on the top of the mountains. Thank you Madison Chapter for making us a part of your group along with all the other people we met. Can’t wait for Star Days 2010 to reconnect with all we met… Feed the Children which is the official charity of the Star Touring Association was given an enthusiastic welcome by the people of Billings, who were very grateful for all the hard work that had gone into the year long drive for the donations. Even though it hit 103 degrees that day the bikers who were riding in the parade to help deliver the food, essentials and toys felt it was well worth it when seeing all of the grateful recipients. For more information on Star Days 2009 check out Cruzin with Susan Star Days on our group page and see if Spook Star won any awards.

3. Image management features: Organize your images into Albums, as well as Rotate, Crop and Watermark

These upgrades should be completed by the end of the month. Thanks for your patience.

Bloomington Gold
America’s original Corvette Show was held at the Pheasant Run Resort & Spa in St. Charles, IL June 25 – 28 and CruizinUSA along with the folks from Chula Vista Resort, WI Dells (the home of Corvette Adventures) were represented by Sue and Doug Kiry of CruizinUSA.com and Mike Kaminski, president of Chula Vista Resort. The Corvette auction, from one-of-kind vehicles to celebrity owners (Jim Lovell of Apollo 13’s car was one) were auctioned off. The auction was handled by Mecum Auction and televised on Discovery HD both Friday and Saturday. There were some beautiful cars that were up for auction, the kind that are hard to resist and Mike of Chula Vista Resort couldn’t. He picked of beautiful 1991 ZR1 metallic turquoise (a limited color for that year) as well as a 1993 40th Anniversary Edition Corvette.
We met lots of new people and saw a lot of old friends from the Corvette Adventures in WI Dells recently held in June. All said they were looking forward to the 2010 event at Chula Vista Resort and the road tours that CruizinUSA conducts during that event.
